Goal achieved ! Marine plastic waste introduced for the first time in the chemicals Conventions
During the last Conference of the Parties (COP) of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions (April-May 2017, Genève), it was officially approved by the Plenary that the Regional Centers of the Stockholm and Basel Conventions can officially work on the issue of marine plastic waste and microplastics. The Regional Centers from now can consistently report their activities on the issue to the next COP which will take place in 2019

Els residus marins són una realitat i una amenaça real per a tots els ecosistemes marins i per a la biodiversitat. Són una veritable plaga que maltracta moltes espècies marines i el seu hàbitat.

SCP/RAC leads a working group on endocrine disruptor chemicals (EDCs) and persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in marine litter plastics
The SCP/RAC, as a regional center of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, has promoted and leads an informal working group on EDCs and POPs in plastics and microplastics in the marine environment.

Meeting of the Regional Centres of the Stockholm and Basel Conventions
The SCP/RAC has participated in the annual meeting of the Regional Centres of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic pollutants, and the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal. The meeting took place in Geneva from 31 October to 2 November 2016.

The Mediterranean celebrates Coast Day “Blue economy for a healthy Mediterranean”
For the 10th consecutive year, the Mediterranean celebrated the Coast Day, on 27 September this year in Barcelona under the theme “A blue economy for a healthy Mediterranean”.
