First Mediterranean
Roundtable on Sustainable Consumption and Production
5th-7th November, Barcelona
The First Mediterranean Roundtable on Sustainable Consumption
and Production organised by the CP/RAC will bring together
during three days experts from relevant public administrations,
civil society, business and industrial sectors of the
Mediterranean countries in order to discuss and exchange
ideas with the objective of identifying concrete challenges
and measures to move forward towards SCP in the Mediterranean
region. Special consideration will be given to the thematic
areas identified by the Mediterranean Strategy for Sustainable
Development (MSSD) as well as climate change, one of
the priority fields of action for sustainable development
in the Mediterranean.
The CP/RAC and SCP
The CP/RAC launched a Work Programme on Sustainable
Consumption and Production, as approved by the Contracting
Parties to the Barcelona Convention at their 15th Ordinary
Meeting in Almeria, Spain, in January 2008. Through
this Work Programme, CP/RAC aims at supporting the regional
and national efforts to change unsustainable patterns
of consumption and production, a major objective of
the MSSD and a thematic priority of UNEP.
The aforementioned Mediterranean Roundtable on Sustainable
Consumption and Production is one of the various major
actions that the CP/RAC is organizing in this area,
and has the support of the Division of Technology, Industry
and Economics of UNEP, which leads the Marrakech Process,
the global framework for programmes on SCP.
