HOW MUCH IS ENOUGH?

The 5 A Day campaign, initiated in several nations throughout the world, recommends eating five fruits and vegetables a day. It has been recommended to help prevent certain illnesses such as diabetes, obesity, heart disease and some types of cancer.

This campaign has sprung out of countries where a typical diet for many is mostly of meat, fats and industrial food. But it is important to keep in mind: it isn't so much that fruit and vegetables prevent illnesses and that meat and fats cause them: what is unhealthy is to have a diet out of balance.. That is to say: more important than measuring how many grams of each thing that we eat, is to take in the idea that a varied diet is essential. Habits such as eating two pieces of fruit each day, together with others like eating meat some times a week, carbohydrates each day, etc., help guarantee a balanced diet.
