CP/RAC held its 8th National Focal Points Meeting in Barcelona

From 22nd to 24th of May, the Regional Activity Center for Cleaner Production (CP/RAC) held its 8th National Focal Points Meeting in Barcelona (Spain).

The COP5 decides to list endosulfan in Annex A of the Stockholm Convention

The fifth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP5) to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) was held from 25-29 April 2011, in Geneva, Switzerland. Over 700 participants, representing more than 125 governments, as well as intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations and UN agencies, attended the meeting.

Stockholm Convention has launched the POPs free initiative

In order to assist Parties in meeting their obligations, the Secretariat of Stockholm Convention has launched an initiative on POPs-free products and processes. The initiative seeks to encourage manufacturers and retailers of consumer products, who have phased-out POPs, to provide information on POPs-free products, on possible alternatives and substitutes and processes for introducing such alternatives and substitutes.

Croatia shifts from Public Procurement to Green Public Procurement

A 2-day Horizon 2020 Capacity Building/Mediterranean Environment Programme (CB/MEP) seminar was hosted in the city of Zagreb in Croatia on the 12th and 13th of April 2011. It aimed at responding to the capacity building needs of the Croatian Government to shift from public procurement to green public procurement (GPP).

The training offered formal presentations on GPP procedures and practical cases of implementation (Cyprus National Action Plan on GPP and experiences of the Barcelona City council and Basque Country in Spain).

BAT4MED project invited to the H2020 meeting in Copenhagen

Co-ordination with other ongoing initiatives aiming at increasing environmental protection in the Mediterranean region is seen as key by partners to ensure the success of the BAT4MED project. To this aim, the project consortium is implementing a wide range of networking activities to co-ordinate efforts with other initiatives and programmes in the region and identify potential synergies that can help increase project impact.
