RECETOX organizes the 7th Summer School of Environmental Chemistry and Ecotoxicology

From the 27th of June until the 2nd of July 2011 it will take place in Masaryk University Brno (Czech Republic) the 7th Summer School of Environmental Chemistry and Ecotoxicology, organized by the Research Centre for Toxic Compounds in the Environment (RECETOX).

The general topic will be the Contaminants in the environment: sources, levels, transformations and long-range transport; sampling and analytical techniques; toxic and ecotoxic effects on biota, biotests and biomonitoring; risk assessment, data analysis and modelling including GIS.

7th Meeting of the CP/RAC National Focal Points

The 8th Meeting of the CP/RAC National Focal Points will be held in Barcelona in May

From 22nd to 24th of May 2011 the 8th Meeting of CP/RAC National Focal Points will take place in Barcelona (Spain). The meeting is being convened pursuant to the Decisions of the 16th Ordinary Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention (Marrakech, November 2009).

Olive oil production and processing going "green" in Morocco

A 2-day Horizon 2020 Capacity Building/Mediterranean Environment Programme (CB/MEP) seminar was hosted in the city of Meknes in Morocco during the first two days of March 2011. It aimed at improving knowledge on how to reduce the environmental impacts of olive oil production from olive tree cultivation to olive toil extraction. Innovative solutions for the management of olive oil by-products claimed special attention.

To complement its face-to-face training activities, the Secretariat of the Stockholm Convention is hosting a series of webinars (seminars via web) that focus on the implementation of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).

 In the context of the launch of the new Tunisian Ecolabel for bottled olive oil, the CP/RAC took part in a seminar on 14 October at the Tunis International Centre for Environmental Technologies (CITET) to look at the different ways of managing olive oil residues. Representatives at the seminar from Tunis included experts from the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development, the National Waste Management Agency (ANGED) and CITET.
