Workshop on education for sustainable consumption and production with youth volunteers of Red Cross and Red Crescent

For the second time, the Regional Activity Centre for Cleaner Production (CP/RAC) participated in the Atlantis youth camp organized by the Cooperation Center in the Mediterranean (CCM) of Red Cross and Red Crescent. The 7th edition of Atlantis was held in Hammamet (Tunisia) from the 2nd to the 9th of July and was attended by 68 youths, aged between 18 and 28 years, volunteers of Red Cross and Red Crescent in the Mediterranean.

Chemical Challenges, Sustainable Solutions

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, the Secretariat is inviting Parties and NGOs to organize national drawing, photography or short film contests for children and youth. The theme for the competition is “Stockholm at 10: Chemical Challenges, Sustainable Solutions” and what it means to young people around the world.

Fewer risks from hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment

The ban on heavy metals and other dangerous chemicals in electrical and electronic equipment has now been extended to a much wider range of products, with new rules entering into force today. The new law will improve the safety of electronic products such as thermostats, medical devices and control panels, and will prevent the release of hazardous substances into the environment. Member States have 18 months to transpose the new rules.

Minimizing the environmental impact in the olive oil, and poultry farming sectors in Albania

Olive oil production and poultry farming were at the centre of the latest national training course organized in Albania within the framework of the Horizon 2020 CB/MEP project. The two-day training course (30 June- 1 July) introduced trainees to the best environmental practices and cleaner technologies with the overarching goal to minimize the environmental impact of the olive oil and poultry farming sectors.

Sustainable management of industrial areas in Montenegro

Introducing sustainability to the management of industrial areas was the focus of a Horizon 2020 training course organized in Montenegro. The two-and-a-half day course (27-29 June 2011) focused on the environmental impacts of industrial areas on the Mediterranean Sea and on the tools and measures necessary to mitigate these.

The participants were Montenegrin professionals working on coastal zone management or in industrial areas, sourced mainly from local and national environmental regulatory bodies, industry and academia.
