The conference “Shifting to a Green Economy in the Mediterranean Region” organized by the OCEMO and the CMI , in partnership with Plan Bleu, FEMISE and the City of Marseille was held in Marseille (France) on May 23rd and 24th.
2012 marks the year of the launch of EC funded SWITCH-Med programme, to assist the 9 ENPI South target countries of the southern Mediterranean to develop and implement policies to SWITCH to sustainable pattern of consumption and production promoting SCP among consumers, small and medium-sized enterprises and Mediterranean policy-makers.
The “Life Cycle Thinking” can be a powerful tool to drive forward environmental improvements by identifying opportunities and leading to decisions that can help to a better efficiency and competitiveness of the enterprises. In order to promote this “thinking”, CP/RAC and the Ministry of Environment of Lebanon organized, on May 10th, a course in Beirut to present the latest developments concerning Life Cycle Thinking and Assessment, especially those within the UNEP Life Cycle Initiative, with special interest into the applicability of Life cycle in the olive oil sector, one of the most important food sectors in the whole Mediterranean Region.
The meetings will be held from 12th to 14th June at the Catalan Waste Agency (ARC- CP/RAC) facilities and will plan the last one and a half year of the project. All partners will send representatives to attend the event, key for the correct developing of all tasks.
On May 22nd and 23rd took place, under the CAMP Levante de Almeria’s project framework, the Workshop “Location and environmental challenges for the agricultural sector of Eastern Almería: Management of the water footprint and sustainable production”. This activity was held on Tuesday, May 22nd at the Exhibition Centre and Congress Campohermoso, and Wednesday May 23rd at the Exhibition Center of the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata-Nijar Rodalquilar.
