On the 14th of February 2012, CP/RAC together with UNEP/Wuppertal Institute Collaborating Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production (CSCP), Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP), Bogazici University Sustainable Development and Cleaner Production Center and the Turkish Ministry of Environment and Urbanization organized the Sustainable Entrepreneurship Course, in Istanbul, Turkey.
The 15th European Round Table on Sustainable Consumption and Production (ERSCP), organized by the Network of Experts in Sustainable Consumption and Production PREPARE, will take place from the 2nd to 4th of May 2012 in Bregenz, Austria. The ERSCP 2012 places special emphasis on intense and vivacious dialogue between research and business. The motto “SCP meets industry” demonstrates this approach. This particular focus is shown by the fact that 8 leading companies located in the region are sponsors and partners of the conference.
The 17th meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment and the Coastal Region of the Mediterranean (Barcelona Convention) and its Protocols will take place in Paris, France from 8 to 10 February.
Leading policy makers from 21 Mediterranean countries and the European Union will meet to discuss the health of the Mediterranean Sea and the progress that has been made in their efforts to protect the Mediterranean marine and coastal environment.
The Department of the Environment in cooperation with AMAP and CPRAC organize a workshop in Rabat on 13-15 March 2012 to develop the elements of a monitoring plan for persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in Morocco as part of the Global Monitoring Plan prepared by the Stockholm Convention on POPs. Presentations by scientists experienced in the measurement of concentrations of POPs in the atmosphere and humans will be followed by working groups to develop a simple monitoring program that can last over time.
CP/RAC starts a new stage with the nomination of its new Director, Enrique de Villamore Martín. Enrique, age 35, has an eight-year experience working as technical staff in the Centre.
The new Director faces a key moment in the Centre as the first year from the 2010-2011 work plan is near to its accomplishment and CP/RAC has to reach new goals in supporting the efforts of Mediterranean countries to shift to more sustainable patterns of consumption and production.
