H2020 capacity building training on IPPC in Palestine

On 2nd and 3rd of October 2011 took place in Palestine a national training course organized within the framework of the Horizon 2020 CB/MEP project. The workshop introduced trainees to the advantages and opportunities offered by the adaptation of institutional and legal frameworks for industrial permitting and monitoring systems to Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC).

The course was attended by 36 professionals from all over Palestine, including professionals from the industrial sector, local authorities, members of Chambers of Commerce and of business associations and entrepreneurs.

During the workshop, the trainees had the opportunity to learn the application of an integrated permit system to control and monitor industrial activities; the experience with BAT (Best Available Techniques) in the permitting process for industrial installations to shift from pollution control to pollution prevention; experiences of Mediterranean countries that are already in the process of implementing IPPC; the steps for implementing the IPPC system; and case studies on BAT implementation or adaptation to Mediterranean enterprises.

The course was organized by UNEP/MAP’s Regional Activity Centre for Cleaner Production (CP/RAC).
