Closing of the V Mediterranean Week of Economic Leaders

The V Mediterranean Week of Economic Leaders has closed with a balance of 50 sessions and side events, 1500 participants from 20 countries, 200 international speakers and a joint final Declaration.

During the Week the attendants have stated three main challenges: the need of creating efficient, skilled and decent jobs in a short and medium term, especially among young people; the importance of improve governance at all levels in   governments and in economic institutions and in southern Mediterranean enterprises; and, finally, the need of involving the private sector and their representatives in the processes of inclusive development of their societies.

The joint final Declaration of the V Mediterranean Week of Economic Leaders has been coordinated by ASCAME (Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the Mediterranean) on behalf of private sector in the Mediterranean with the collaboration of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, with the aim to create a common space of democracy, peace and prosperity and development and shared economic growth, with the support of the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed), and other relevant organizations that work to promote economic development in the Mediterranean and Europe.
