SCP/RAC and MIO-ESCDE organized a new training on eco-innovation, industrial ecology and clean production in Alger on 6th-7th May 2014, in the framework of the EC funded Horizon 2020 Initiative. Around 35 delegates from public administration, private businesses and civil society attended the 2 days workshop.

On the first day of the training, a recognized international expert from SOFIES presented the state of the art on Industrial Ecology and symbiosis, with a special focus on industrial areas planning and environmental competitiveness. During the afternoon session, the organizers prepared a group exercise that allowed participants to put into practice the theoretical learning.

On the second day, a Moroccan expert from UNIDO highlighted the main tools to increase the eco-efficiency of the industrial processes with several examples from the MED TEST project. Rouiba, an algerian beverage manufacturer was also invited to share its own experience while working with the Algerian Center for Cleaner Production, present at the opening. Finally, a collaborative workshop on Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) was convened by the UNEP-DTIE expert with the aim to feed the SCP process in Algeria within the SWITCH-Med Initiative.
