CP/RAC participated in the Mediterranean Expert Meeting for the Global Sustainable Development Report

The meeting, held in the framework of the call of the Outcome Document of Rio+20 for a Global Sustainable Development Report, was organized by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs/Division for Sustainable Development and supported by the Centre of Excellence.
 
The event aimed at bringing together scientists, policy analysts, planners and other experts involved in sustainable development at the national, regional and sub-regional level in order to see how they can best contribute to the future Global Sustainable Development Report and establish a network of scientific contributors that can cooperate and coordinate at the regional and sub-regional level.

Participants debated on the common challenges for the next decade in the Mediterranean Region and agreed that the need for integrated visions, strategies, planning and decision-making requires well-functioning and healthy science-policy dialogues. They also agreed on the fact that the pool of scientific knowledge and policy experience in the Mediterranean could be better utilized to benefit from each other's experiences and work more closely on topics of common interest.

SCP was acknowledged as one of the key integrated and interdisciplinary approach to reach the "Future We Want" and define implementable programmes for sustainable development in the Mediterranean Region.

The 2-days meeting ended with the adoption by the participants of the Dubrovnik Declaration, detailing the regional perspective on science-policy interface for a sustainable future.
