Already scheduled the RACs' National Focal Points meetings

During May 2011 the National Focal Points meetings of the Regional Activity Centers (RACs) of the Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP) will take place.

These meetings are crucial because in them the Regional Activity Centers will explain the activities realized in the last two years and during the meeting it will be discussed and approved the proposed working program for the biennium 2012-2013.

An international workshop on hazardous substances addresses challenges of managing domestic electrical and electronic waste

The UN Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), in cooperation with the Secretariats of the Basel and Stockholm Conventions, convened the International Workshop on Hazardous Substances within the Life Cycle of Electronic and Electrical products from 29-31 March in Vienna, Austria.

MedPartnership launches new website

The UNEP/MAP GEF Strategic Partnership for the Mediterranean Large Marine Ecosystem (MedPartnership) is a collective effort of leading organizations (regional, international, non-governmental, etc.) and countries sharing the Mediterranean Sea towards the protection of the marine and coastal environment of the Mediterranean. The MedPartnership is led by UNEP/MAP and the World Bank and is financially supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), and other donors, including the EU and all participating countries.

Launching of BAT4MED: Boosting Best Available Techniques in the Mediterranean Partner Countries


The project  will last 30 months and is coordinated by Instituto Andaluz de Tecnología (IAT) jointly with 7 more partners from 6 Mediterranean countries. The first meeting of the project took place on 13th & 14th January in IAT premises in Seville, Spain. The project is co-financed by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development

BAT4MED aims to analyse the potential impact of the introduction of the Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) concept in the Mediterranean Partner Countries (MPC) and, more specifically, if this can contribute to minimise the negative impacts associated with polluting industries from key industrial sectors.

Montenegro has ratified the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants

Montenegro ratified the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants on 31 March 2011. The Convention will enter into force for Montenegro on 29 June 2011, ninety days after deposit of its instrument of ratification.
