First meeting of the SCP Experts Group to draft a SCP Road Map for the Mediterranean

25th April 2013 | Updated: 30th May 2013

On 8 and 9 April 2013, Barcelona hosted the first meeting of the group of experts on Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) for the Mediterranean region, the Med SCP Expert Group (MSEG), under the SWITCH-Med project.

The meeting, held in the framework of the regional policy component of the SWITCH-Med Project, in which the CP/RAC has a key role as executing agency, aims to draft a SCP Road Map for the Mediterranean with the support of the Med SCP Expert Group, formed by:

- Mr. Hussein Abaza (Egypt)
- Mr Kouvelis Syros (Greece)
- Ms. Lamia Mansour (Lebanon)
- Mr. Rida Lamrini (Morocco)
- Mr. Alessio Satta (Italy)
- Mr. Roland Weber (Germany)

The aim is to present the Roadmap at the Conference of the Parties of the Barcelona Convention that will be held in late 2013 to support the integration of Sustainable Consumption and Production in the governance and policy framework of the Barcelona Convention. In that sense, the discussions maintained during the two days allowed to reach an agreement on the guiding principles of the Road Map and to define the elements integrators.

The event also featured the Regional Governance Framework, consisting of the Barcelona Convention and its protocols and Regional Plans, and the Global Governance Framework in CPS, specifically the 10-year Framework of Programmes on SCP adopted at Rio +20.

The next meeting of the MSEG will be held on 13 and 14 May 2013 in Barcelona.
