Second meeting of the Correspondence group on Economic and Social Analysis in the framework of the EcAp Initiative

The COR ESA Group has been created by the EcAp Coordination Group to develop and coordinate the socio-economic assessment of water uses and coastal areas of the Mediterranean at the regional, sub-regional and national scales. Plan Bleu and the MAP Coordinating Unit are in charge of the group coordination and the implementation of the “Economic and Social Analysis” (ESA) action.

This second COR ESA meeting had as objectives:

• To present the results of the ESA action at the regional Mediterranean level.

• To present the outcomes of the ESA action at the national scale, through three pilot cases conducted in Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia (under the framework of the Regional  Governance and Knowledge generation Project (Regoko), funded by the GEF)

• To exchange on the experiences, methods and availability of data regarding the ESA actions presented.

• To share ownership on methods and results at national level, in the preparation of the next steps of EcAp, in particular regarding the economic and social impacts of measures to be adopted to achieve good ecological status (GES)

After the meeting it was agreed that Plan Bleu should finalize the regional report on Socio-economic Analysis and the scoping study on Cost of Degradation for its submission to the EcAP Coordination Group, and to prepare national guidelines to undertake the Social and Economic Analysis at national level
