Cleaner production as a tool for business competitiveness

On 15th June the Regional Activity Centre for Cleaner Production (CP/RAC) of UNEP/MAP organized a workshop on cleaner production and industrial competitiveness held in Algeria.

The event focused on the ways for implementing cleaner production on the most relevant industrial sectors in the country, which are cement, food and surface treatment. Spanish companies invited explained their experiences in adapting their manufacturing processes to cleaner production. The workshop put emphasis on the advantages that cleaner production supposed to the competitiveness of these industries.

In addition to collaborating in organizing the event, CP/RAC showed a presentation on the efforts made by the Center to promote cleaner production as a tool for increasing business competitiveness throughout the Mediterranean region.

The seminar was attended by 60 people among representatives of the Algerian Ministry of Industry, members of the European Union delegation in Algeria and professionals of Algerian businesses and companies. The event was organized jointly by CP/RAC and the Algerian Ministry of Industry, Small and Medium Enterprises and Promoting Investment, under the framework collaboration agreement between CP/RAC and the Algerian National Centre for Cleaner Production (CNTPP).
