The Regional Plans on mercury, food industry and the new persistent organic pollutants that both MEDPOL and CP/RAC have been working on during the last year were also discussed in the meeting. These Regional Plans are expected to be adopted as legally binding measures in the Mediterranean by the 17th Conference of the Parties of the Barcelona Convention. In order to clarify some aspects of the work done the CP/RAC Director made a presentation during the meeting on the assessment of Mercury in the Mediterranean countries prepared by CP/RAC and which served as a basis for the preparation of the Regional Plan.

Another important issue discussed in the meeting was the Marine Litter Strategy that MEDPOL prepared, taking into account that this will be a key issue in the MAP Programme of Work for the next years.
