Subnationals governments are key actors in the shift towards a change of sustainable consumption and production patterns

The Network of Regional Governments for Sustainable Development (nrg4SD) has adopted an advocacy paper that outlines the role of subnational governments in Sustainable Consumption and Production in general and, more specifically the potential of their contribution to the Programme areas of the UN 10 Year Framework Programme.

The advocacy paper is titled “Subnational Governments: A Key Actors in Sustainable Consumption and Production” and it was released in April 2011. The document explains how subnational governments can contribute to different programme areas of the Marrakech process such as policy framework, capacity building and awareness raising, sustainable procurement practices, waste management and sustainable transport among others.

The Network of Regional Governments for Sustainable Development (nrg4SD) works tirelessly to champion the work of subnational governments on sustainable development, including climate action. International organization representing over 600 subnational governments (namely federated states and regional governments) at the global level; nrg4D promotes understanding, partnerships and projects in sustainable development and seeks greater international recognition of the important contribution of subnational governments towards sustainable development. Member of the Forum Global d’Associations de Régions (FOGAR), nrg4SD is the voice of FOGAR in the field of sustainable development.
