CP/RAC held its National Focal Points Meeting "Enhancing the integration of SCP in the Governance Framework of the Barcelona Convenion and MAP" in Barcelona

CP/RAC National Focal Points Meeting

From 18th to 20th of June, the Regional Activity Center for Cleaner Production (CP/RAC) held its National Focal Points Meeting on “Enhancing the integration of Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) in the Governance Framework of the Barcelona Convention and the Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP)” in the Art Nouveau Site of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau in Barcelona (Spain).

The meeting brought together thirty-five participants among National Focal Points of the Center, international experts, representatives of international organizations and all the CP/RAC team. The countries that assisted to the meeting were Albania, Algeria, Bosnia&Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Lebanon, Libya, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Slovenia, Spain and Turkey.  Besides, the Blue Plan Director, the Programe Manager of the Union for the Mediterranean and the Head of the 10YFP Secretariat (UNEP/DTIE) also participated in the meeting.

The first day a joint session took place with MED POL, that also held its National Focal Meeting from 18th to 21st June in Barcelona. This joint session was specially focused on reviewing and discussing the Draft Regional Plan on Marine litter Management in the framework of the Art. 15 of the LBS Protocol, thereby all the participants made their recommendations and comments to the document.

The second day of the meeting, the CP/RAC Director, Mr. Enrique de Villamore, explained the activities that the Center has done in the last two years and the CP/RAC technical staff described the projects developed during the biennium. Next, Mr. Enrique de Villamore introduced the SWITCH-Med Programme which was followed by an in-depth description of its Regional Policy Component and its main component: the SCP Roadmap for the Mediterranean.

During the morning of the last day, the SWITCH-Med National Policy component was presented and the different members of the CP/RAC team explained the Center's Proposal for the Work Plan 2014-2015 taking into account the 5 years MAP Work Program and its Themes. Finally, a conclusions document was adopted, which contains the recognition of the work done by the Center in promoting the shift to sustainable patterns of consumption and production in the Mediterranean region in the past years and also it contains the requests of the National Focal Points regarding  the orientation of the CP/RAC activities in the nearly future.

The meeting was conceived and organized according to sustainability criteria in different areas. It was a paper-free event and during its celebration collective transport was used to get around the city.
